Please note that as of August, 2003 Hearthmakers is no longer offering Green Home Visits. For information about improving your home's efficiency, please see our EnerGuide for Houses page.
Are utility bills giving you the chills? Hearthmakers may have the solution!
Hearthmakers Energy Cooperative has received funding from EcoAction 2000 for a Green Home Visits program, to help homes in the Kingston area become more energy efficient. This program is new to Kingston, but has been very successful in other regions: Since 1991, over 13,000 Visits have been completed in the Cornwall area, saving an average of $124 annually for each household, and a total to date of over $1.6 million.
Green Home Visit couldn't come at a better time: many homeowners are concerned about rising utility bills, Utilities Kingston recently announced increased water and sewage rates, and deregulation may cause yet another increase in electricity rates.
"The benefits of the Greent Home Visits program are straightforward
" says Dave Silburn, Energy Efficiency Coordinator for Hearthmakers Energy Cooperative, "Stop losing money, improve your home's comfort and help the environment.
"
Green Home Visits allow residents to operate their homes more efficiently and free up finances for other local spending. Green Home Visits includes an efficiency audit of the home by trained professionals and the installation of free water and energy conservation materials. Thanks to EcoAction, the next fifty Green Home Visits undertaken by Hearthmakers are available at the subsidized cost of $25 — the actual value of these visits is over $150.
