Hearthmakers Energy Co-operative is a Kingston based enterprising non profit organization that provides services and programs to improve the environmental sustainability of Eastern Ontario homes and communities, with a focus on home energy efficiency and ground water protection.
With the growth of the organization, Hearthmakers is currently expanding the number of individuals on its board.
Requirements for Board Members - General
- Demonstrated commitment to energy efficiency/conservation and/or other aspects of sustainability in their personal & professional lives.
- Knowledge and skills in one or more area: policy, finance, fundraising, HR, energy efficiency, green building, marketing, communications, web development, business/social enterprise development.
- Attendance and active participation at monthly board meetings and periodic strategic planning sessions in Kingston.
- A time commitment of (on average) three to four hours per month, (includes board preparation, meeting, committee and meeting time).
- Be informed of the services provided by Hearthmakers and publicly support them.
- Prepare for and participate in the discussions and the deliberations of the board.
- To foster a positive working relationship with other board members, Hearthmakers staff and energy advisors.
- Be aware and abstain from any conflict of interest.
- Board experience an asset, but not required. The board is open to mentoring younger board members who have demonstrated an interest/passion for sustainability issues.
Applications should consist of a short bio/cover letter and resume stating your interest in joining the Hearthmakers Energy Co-operative board and providing details how your experience and skills meet the requirements outlined above. Board members serve a 2-year term that can be extended.
