Stephen W. SottileThe Office Administrator is the primary support person for the Hearthmakers team of renewable energy professionals at our 35 Johnson St. location. Responsibilities include development and maintenance of databases, maintenance of central electronic and hard-copy filing systems, scheduling and booking of meetings, document production, and other administrative tasks as required. In addition, the Office Administrator will handle general inquiries about Hearthmakers and its projects from the public-at-large and manage office reception.
Training will be provided, however it is expected that the Office Administrator will at a minimum have demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Access, MS Project, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet Explorer. Bilingualism is an asset, though not required. Good organizational and interpersonal skills are a must. A willingness to learn and a positive attitude are as important as relevant experience in Hearthmakers' evaluation of Office Administrator applicants.
The Renewable Energy Assessment Assessor will be responsible for leading Hearthmakers staff in the development of a solar energy map for the Kingston area and becoming proficient in the assessment of wind or other renewable energy resources.
Training will be provided. No specific experience with renewable energy assessment is required, but the successful applicant will have a relevant technical, scientific, or engineering background. Experience with GIS and/or other technical software programs is an asset. Must have the proven ability to work unsupervised and independently to reach assigned deliverables.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the development and maintenance of Hearthmakers' computer and data networks. In addition, the IT Coordinator will research and develop IT applications for remote communities in Latin America and the Canadian North. Responsibility for Graphic Design and layout of the Hearthmakers' or Project Based websites, marketing materials, and other design work as needed will also be part of the successful applicant's responsibilities.
Training may be provided, but it is expected that the successful applicant will have demonstrated expertise in standard office networking and/or graphic design applications.
The Latin America Liaison Officer will be responsible for managing communications with Hearthmakers' Latin American partners. Fluency in both English and Spanish is the primary requirement for this position. The successful candidate will have demonstrated their ability to communicate within a professional context, as well as proven organizational skills. Knowledge of Latin American development issues and challenges faced by developing communities is an asset.
Training will be provided. The Latin America Liaison Officer will also serve as a shared resource for non-Latin American projects, in a capacity commensurate with her or his skill set.
Responsible for implementation of Hearthmakers' community education and consultation programs, the Eastern Ontario Community Liaison Officer will work with Hearthmakers' staff and members of the community at large to increase awareness and adoption of renewable energy sources. Duties will include scheduling, booking, promotion, and logistics for numerous public events, managing relationships with external stakeholder organizations, and ensuring that Hearthmakers' events and public image are managed in a professional and timely manner. The Eastern Ontario Liaison Officer will assist in the development of local and regional marketing strategies and materials for Hearthmakers Energy Coop.
Training will be provided, but previous experience in event planning, education, media/public relations, lobbying/activism, or marketing is considered an asset. Good organizational, listening, and interpersonal skills are a must.
The Hearthmakers Energy Cooperative Research Coordinator will be responsible for assembling a collection of resources that will provide Hearthmakers' staff and the general public with knowledge of renewable energy issues and technologies. In addition, the research coordinator will be responsible for a number of specific research assignments in the areas of biomass and bio-fuels that will contribute to development of Hearthmakers' business strategies. The research co-ordinator will also be required to provide assistance and guidance to both Liaison Officers and the Business Manager.
While some training will be provided, it is expected that the Research Coordinator will be capable of working independently to meet project deadlines, be familiar with internet-based and primary research methods, and have good critical thinking and analytical skills. This position is ideal for those wishing to apply their academic research skills in a business environment, or gain experience in the renewable energy field in preparation for further studies.
From a relevant technical or engineering background, the Renewable Energy Systems Designer will assist in the design, fabrication, installation and operation of various renewable energy generation devices. Training may be provided in the areas of Solar Hot Water systems, Photovoltaic Solar Panels, Wind Power, and Woodstoves. Working closely with the Business Manager, the Renewable Energy Systems Designer will be expected to become a technical expert in one or more renewable energy generation sources.
The Renewable Energy Systems Designer will be able to work independently, and have experience with standard mechanical and electrical design software including, but lot limited to applications such as AutoCAD.
The Regulatory Compliance Officer will be responsible for seeing Hearthmakers' projects through Municipal, Provincial, and Federal regulatory processes, including environmental impact studies, zoning by-laws, licensing and permitting, and other such steps required by governmental agencies in the course of implementing a renewable energy project. Special focus will be placed on assisting the Business Manager in navigation of all municipal approvals for the Lake Ontario Park Single Wind Turbine Project.
Experience in planning, geography, policy, law, government, or business may be an asset. Training will be provided, but the Regulatory Compliance Officer must be able to work independently to meet strict deadlines and performance requirements. Detail-oriented individuals with good time management skills will receive preference.
