Do you have high energy bills (who doesn't?!?), drafts, or icicles hanging from the roof? Why not look into the causes by booking a home energy evaluation through Hearthmakers Energy Cooperative? The EnerGuide for Houses service will be promoted at the upcoming Kingston Home Builders Association Home Show March 6th to 9th at the Cataraqui Town Centre.
Developed by Natural Resources Canada and delivered exclusively by Hearthmakers Energy Cooperative in the local area, the EnerGuide for Houses evaluation involves a comprehensive and strictly disciplined analysis by a trained technician of general home construction, insulation, doors, windows, heating and cooling systems, and ventilation. In addition, a unique "blower door" unit is used to measure and locate air leakage in the building.
Results of the in-home visit — a process that generally takes under three hours — are fed into specialized computer software that calculates an exact EnerGuide for Houses rating for the home, similar to the ratings that we're now accustomed to seeing on electrical appliances and the like.
More importantly, following the evaluation, the homeowner is provided with a list of recommended remedial activity and an estimate of the energy savings that could be realized as a result of the suggested work. At the homeowner's discretion, a second evaluation is conducted once the remedial work has been completed, and an updated EnerGuide for Houses rating is issued.
Hearthmakers Energy Cooperative, exclusively licensed to offer the EnerGuide for Houses evaluation in the Brockville to Belleville corridor, is a community-based non-profit organization that operates in partnership with, but nonetheless at arms length from, the local construction, renovation, and heating supply industries. For this reason, we believe the EnerGuide for Houses evaluation is an invaluable tool for homeowners — and indeed local building contractors — interested in an objective, scientific assessment of opportunities to make a house a more comfortable, efficient, environmentally friendly home.
So, c'mon out to the Cataraqui Town Centre and talk to Hearthmakers representatives about what an evaluation can do for your home. You'll find us on the 2nd floor at the top of the escalators. For further information, contact us.
